GSC Game World has confirmed that STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl will now be released in 2023. To keep fans entertained, the team released a new movie during today’s Xbox Games Extended Showcase.
STALKER 2 was due for release on December 2nd, but development was put on hold when the studio was caught in the crossfire of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. GSC Game World is based in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and some employees have helped defend the city. Given the situation, it seemed increasingly unlikely that the game would make it this year, so today’s announcement doesn’t come as a complete surprise. Although GSC is still operating out of Kyiv, most of the game’s development has resumed in a new office in Prague, Czech Republic.
Meanwhile, a new trailer expands on the dark atmosphere of STALKER 2.
Additionally, a developer diary documents the state of GSC Game World at the start of the Russian invasion and how it rallied amid days of bombing (contains disturbing images of war, so viewer discretion is advised).
STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be released on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
