The Golden State Warriors lost their chance to beat the Dallas Mavericks last night. Skip Bayless expressed concern about the strength of this Warriors team.
The Warriors’ success is often linked to Steph Curry’s shots, and Bayless believes the all-time three-point leader isn’t himself. Granted, Curry didn’t have the best shooting performance in the 2022 playoffs, but he can get hot any night.
The Warriors will return home Thursday night to host the Mavericks and try to get the job done. A Thursday night win would secure them a berth in the NBA Finals for the sixth time in eight years. They would then wait for anyone advancing from the East between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.
On “Undisputed: Skip and Shannon,” Skip revealed that the first win was enough for Dallas to renew his belief in her to win the series. He compared the 2022 Golden State Warriors team to 2016 when they collapsed with a 3-1 lead before being taken over by Kevin Durant. Baylos said:
“It’s not so much about Luka and Co. My reservations always relate to Golden State.
“I’m not sure about this year’s Golden State. I wasn’t sure what the 2016 Golden State Warriors would be like without Kevin Durant, who was close to joining them and pushing them back to the top with back-to-back MVP Finals.
“Kyrie (Irving) and LeBron (James) obviously went from three to one to win a Game 7 because Steph Curry was even smaller than him in Game 7 in his house.”
Bayless believes that the Memphis Grizzlies could have beaten the Warriors had they been perfectly healthy and Dillon Brooks hadn’t been suspended, stating:
“Steph wasn’t Steph. He was weird, weird, weird, missing free throws and looking around like, ‘What am I doing? What is happening with me?’
“What if Luka and Co. carry that dynamic they built in in the second half into Game 5? All you have to do to make this very interesting is steal a game 5 in a building they were in game 2 above 19 at the end of the second quarter. They were up 14 by halftime.”
Skip concluded by pointing out that Dallas showed what they can do in a Game 7 even in enemy territory. He cited their conference semifinal win over the top-seeded Phoenix Suns. Still, the Mavericks need to take one game at a time, just like Luka Doncic said.
Can the Golden State Warriors end the streak in Game 5?
The Warriors have the staff to wrap up the series in Game 5 in front of their home fans. However, you must have a short memory and forget about their ridiculous portrayal in Game 4.
Their outside defenses were non-existent and luckily for the Mavericks, Dallas shots rang. The Warriors will need to be a lot more aggressive if they want to end the series Thursday night at the Chase Center.
To achieve success, Klay Thompson has to contribute more offensively. Despite having several good games, he needs to be consistent and help out his splash brother.
The Warriors are yet to lose a game at home, which turns Game 5 in their favor. However, Dallas has shown their ability to steal big wins down the road.
