Sunny Day Real Estate announce North American reunion tour

Sunny Day Real Estate has confirmed an exciting tour of North America in September, October and December 2022.

The tour, announced yesterday (May 16), will be the band’s first high-profile tour since 2010. Three of the band’s four founding members – leader Jeremy Enigk, guitarist Dan Hoerner and drummer William Goldsmith – were all confirmed as part of the band 2022 reunited earlier this year.

Before announcing the tour, the band announced two days of festivities – the Riot Festival in Chicago and the Furnace Festival in Birmingham, Alabama. The band will feature The Appleseed Cast on every day of the tour, with the exception of the aforementioned Riot Fest.

Founding bassist Nate Mendel will not be on tour. He was originally scheduled to hit the road during 2022 as part of the Foo Fighters world tour, but all dates were canceled in March following the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins – who had replaced Goldsmith in the band in 1997.

It is currently unknown whether the band will tour with an additional bassist or if Enigk will play the bass himself – as he did on the band’s last album, 2000’s The Rising Tide.

Sunny Day Real Estate’s last show was in May 2010 at the HMV Forum in London. It ended the eight-month reunion of the band’s original lineup, which included dates in North America, Australia and Europe.

The tour marked that lineup’s first performance together in 11 years. However, the band’s third breakup was not confirmed until 2014, when a seven-inch split with Circa Survive was released with a previously unreleased song.

Tickets for all of the band’s upcoming tour dates are currently on sale on their website. See the full list of dates below.
