The View host Sunny Hostin caused a stir Monday morning when she said she “never” believes in abortion because of her Catholic faith.
Days after the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade and paved the way for individual states to ban abortion, Hostin said she disagreed with the decision, contrasting the restrictions on women’s bodies with America’s largely unrestricted gun rights, which the same court said last expanded had Thursday.
“The court is basically saying it’s time to welcome all this new life, but we can shoot them with our newly available, totally unrestricted guns,” Hostin said. “This conflict was shocking to me. It is unbelievable that precedents no longer seem to matter.”
Hostin later said that she was against abortion and didn’t believe in it, no matter the circumstances. One of her co-hosts chimed in to ask if she would understand in rape and incest cases, to which Hostin replied, “No, I don’t.”
“I’ve never believed in abortion,” Hostin said. “I don’t believe in an exception to that. A lot of people see that as very radical, and that’s because I’m Catholic.”
“This has always been a very difficult discussion for me,” Hostin continued. “But what is not difficult for me is the fact that this is an activist Supreme Court and they should not decide the law based on their beliefs. While I agree with Alito on the sanctity of life…the fact that he’s clearly using and practicing his religion is pretty awful.”
