Super Bowl: Five things to know about Jason and Travis Kelce

In the summer of 2021 — when the Kelce brothers had 10 Pro Bowl selections, three Super Bowl appearances, and two Super Bowl wins in their NFL careers — Travis dropped a bombshell during a podcast interview.

“My real name is ‘Kelss,'” he said on an episode of Bussin’ With the Boys, sparking a minor uproar among NFL fans who feared we’d been mispronouncing the name for a decade.

Technically, that’s exactly what we did (and continue to do) – because that’s how they say it.

Both brothers eventually addressed the matter. It turns out the correct pronunciation is “Kelss,” but Jason and Travis always used “Kel-see” because of a change their father made earlier in his life.

“My dad got tired of correcting anyone who called him ‘Kel-see’ at some point while he was working at the steel mills in Cleveland, Ohio,” Jason told SportsRadio 94WIP in Philadelphia. “Apparently the correct pronunciation, the standard pronunciation, is ‘Kelss.’ The rest of the family follows suit. Well, my father completely changed his last name out of sheer laziness. And now I think we’ve gotten to the point where we’re both riding Ed Kel-see. For some reason, he decided to change it, and we’ve done that our entire lives.”
