Swimmers assault staff, vandalize cars after being asked to leave pool at McVeigh Playground: Police

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are investigating after an attack erupted while pool staff attempted to remove three women for apparent unruly behavior.

It happened around 4:25 p.m. Thursday at McVeigh Playground on the 400 block of E. Ontario Street.

Police say the women refused to leave and have become hostile to staff.

“Staff repeatedly told the women not to swim any further and to walk,” police said in a press release. “The women continued to refuse orders to leave the facility while sitting at the end of the pool taunting and threatening staff. Afterwards the staff closed the pool and all other occupants of the pool exited the pool with no problem.”

Police say the women then gained access to the recreation center and at least two swimmers began waving their arms.

Once staff were able to get the women outside, police say the women vandalized three parked cars.

Five people were slightly injured in the incident.

No arrests were made. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the police at 215-686-TIPS.
