The PC Gaming Show has given its first in-depth look at the gameplay for a sci-fi thriller from Starward Industries, The Invincible. What has been shown is compelling, and it might be an understatement to say it, but this game looks stunning.
The demo begins from the perspective of Yasna, a hazmat-suited researcher who ventures into a dusty and contaminated facility. Her companion Novik supports her via comms as she digs deeper into the mysterious place. She soon encounters a deactivated antimatter cannon and later a robot repeating a task that has kept him busy for who knows how long. The Invincible’s tech is retro-futuristic, which adds a lot of character and charm to the dilapidated decor and gadgets Yasna uses. Yasna pulls out a handheld tracker with a field of tiny lights and uses it to discover a body buried in the sand beneath her feet, confirming that the place is not safe at all. Then the antimatter cannon springs to life, taking aim and blowing the robotic worker away with a spectacular particle beam before locking eyes on our protagonist.
I’m not usually a fan of slow-paced first-person narrative games, but this look at The Invincible got me nervous and I can’t wait to see more. The Invincible will be released sometime in 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
