Tate McRae has shared another new single from her upcoming debut album “I Used To Think I Could Fly”.
What Can You Do?, which you can listen to below, continues the previous releases ‘She’s All I Wanna Be’, ‘Chaotic’ and ‘Feel Like Shit’ and the EP ‘Too Young To Be Sad’, was released last year.
The song was co-written by Tate, Blake Slatkin (Lil Nas X, The Kid Laroi), Alexander Glantz aka Alexander 23 (Olivia Rodrigo, Selena Gomez), Charlie Puth (Ava Max) and produced by Slatkin, Glantz and Puth.
Her new album will release later this month on May 27 through Audio Recorder.
McRae will also begin touring the UK and Ireland on June 12 at Manchester’s O2 Ritz. The singer will also be a special guest on Shawn Mendes’ 2022 tour. Check ticket details, here.
Before that, she will perform a Roblox concert next Friday (May 20) with fans able to watch replays of the performance throughout the weekend.
Talking to NME about her debut album last year, McRae said “I wanted to try to analyze the structure of different albums and see what kind of thing I could be like”, naming the labyrinthine structure in the track ‘Blonde’ ‘ by Frank Ocean as a reference point, as well as Billie’s Eilish premieres ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go’ and The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours’.
“The cool thing about ‘Blonde’ is I don’t think I’ve heard a song that sounds like him and you know, the fun part is it just makes you want to push yourself,” she said.
McRae also talked about the expectations she’s faced since releasing her first song ‘One Day’ in 2017.
“I just want to work as hard as I can to meet my own and everyone’s expectations,” she said NME. “I guess it’s a little bit of a pressure but if you put your head down and work on it, you can ignore those external feelings of anxiety and stress. It’s just about being passionate about what you do and making sure you’re always doing the best you can. ”
