Taylor Swift fans sue Ticketmaster over Eras Tour pre-sale

It’s no secret that there is bad blood between Taylor Swift fans and Ticketmaster. Now the Swifties are officially taking legal action.

According to Rolling Stone, 26 Taylor Swift fans from 13 states filed a lawsuit against the ticket seller in Los Angeles County on Friday. The complaint alleges Ticketmaster violated the California Cartwright Act and the California Unfair Competition Law during last month’s Verified Fan presale for Swift’s upcoming concert. Plaintiffs are seeking a civil fine of $2,500 per violation.

The lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone alleges that Ticketmaster’s parent company (Live Nation Entertainment Inc.) engaged in fraud, price fixing and antitrust violations while selling pre-sale tickets to the pop superstar’s Eras Tour. The filing also accuses Ticketmaster of “willful and intentional misrepresentation.”[ing] Ticket buyers by allowing scalpers and bots access to the TaylorSwiftTix presale.”

After the pre-sale fiasco, many accused Ticketmaster of unfairly monopolizing the ticket market – which allegedly “forced fans to buy more expensive tickets, for which Ticketmaster receives additional fees every time the tickets are resold,” according to the lawsuit.

Ticketmaster has blamed unexpected and “unprecedented” demand for overwhelming its system and selling out the Eras Tour early. (The company eventually canceled its sales to the general public “due to exceedingly high ticketing system requirements and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand.”)

But the fan lawsuit accused the company of “deliberately providing[ing] Codes when it couldn’t meet ticket demand” after “millions of fans waited up to eight hours and were unable to buy tickets”.

Angry Swifties aren’t the only ones grinding an ax against Ticketmaster. The Eras Tour debacle has also prompted the Tennessee Attorney General and even members of Congress to scrutinize the ticketing industry in recent weeks.

In a message to fans last month, Swift refused to “apologize” for Ticketmaster after she and her team “asked them multiple times if they could handle that kind of demand, and … they were assured that they would.” it could”.

“It’s really amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that many of them feel like they went through multiple bear attacks to get them,” added the “Midnights” artist added.

“We try to make the ticketing process as easy as possible for fans, but this has been the case with a lot of people trying to buy tickets for Taylor Swift | not the case with The Eras Tour,” Ticketmaster said in a statement last month. “We want to apologize to Taylor and all of her fans – especially those who had a horrible experience trying to purchase tickets.”

Ticketmaster did not immediately respond to The Times request for comment on Sunday.
