SYDNEY — A tech billionaire has launched Australia’s biggest polluter’s plan to convert its coal-fired power plants into a new company, delivering a big win for environmental activists looking to switch Faster transition to cleaner energy.

Mike Cannon-BrookesNasdaq-listed Australian co-founder Atlassian Corp., first tried to buy Energy AGL in February after joining with Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management to force change. When repeated attempts to agree a takeover were rejected, Mr. Cannon-Brookes bought more than 11% stake in AGL and sought to oppose the company’s plan to separate its retail electricity business from power generation units.
