There is no free lunch (or snack) and Texas Senator ted cruz knows that, which is why the conservative wants to bring something cryptocurrency to Congress.

Cruz presented this on Wednesday ACCEPT resolution, which stands for Adopting Cryptocurrency in Congress as an Exchange of Payment for Transactions Resolution. If the resolution is passed, the US government could sign contracts with grocery vendors and vending machine operators that accept cryptocurrencies. The ACCEPT Resolution is not a bill, but a simultaneous resolutionused to create or amend rules for the House and Senate, meaning the ACCEPT resolution would not apply to vending machines or food sales outside of Capitol property.

“A concurrent resolution requiring the Architect of the Capitol, the Secretary of the Senate and the Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives to enter into contracts with food service companies and vending machine companies for the Capitol Complex that accept cryptocurrency, and for other purposes,” reads the the resolution.

The resolution does not specify cryptocurrency types, whether the resolution excludes cash or card payments, or what the timeline for this resolution might be. Cruz’s office did not immediately respond to Gizmodo’s request for comment.

According to CoinTelegraph, Cruz has been a vocal advocate for cryptocurrency in the past. Specifically, the senator has gathered behind that Bitcoin decentralizationstating from Twitter that “the left hates bitcoin because they cannot control it”. Reportedly, so does Cruz bought an investment in bitcoin early last year, that was somewhere in the range of $15,000 to $50,000.

The ACCEPT resolution is a bizarrely small-scope resolution, and the next steps are for the Senate and House of Representatives to agree (or disagree) on whether or not to implement it. The resolution does not require President Joe Biden’s approval.
