Teen, 15, arrested as mass brawl erupts ahead of gig at Edinburgh venue

A YOUTH has been arrested after a mass brawl broke out before a performance in Edinburgh.

At around 8:15 p.m., police were called to the O2 Academy in the capital.

Before the Bad Boy Chiller Crew concert, customers lined up outside the venue.

And a local told that Edinburgh evening news that the atmosphere before the performance was like a “war zone”.

He said: “There was absolute chaos everywhere you went. It was almost like a war zone at times.”

“There were people rioting outside the venue, the line didn’t seem to go anywhere.

“So many people came and thought the gig was for 14+ and then realized it was for 16+ which caused a lot of problems.”

A mass brawl broke out outside the venue and when police arrived at the scene, several youths were dispersed.

A 15-year-old youth was arrested in connection with the incident.

He will be referred to the relevant juvenile justice department.

Officials confirmed that the investigation into the disorder is continuing.

Advice and support regarding safety has been given to venue staff.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 8.15pm on Thursday 25 May 2023, police were called to a large scale riot outside a concert hall on Edinburgh’s New Market Road.

“A 15-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the disorder. He will be referred to the appropriate juvenile justice department.

“A number of other youths were dispersed by police at the scene.

“Investigations into the disruption are ongoing and venue staff have been advised and assisted with safety.”

A spokesman for O2 Academy Edinburgh told the Edinburgh Evening News: “On the evening of Thursday 25 May 2023 Scotland Police were called to assist with a riot on Edinburgh’s New Market Road and we are in touch with local authorities to support further inquiries.” Information.
