TREDYFFRIN TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) — A 17-year-old teenager was robbed at gunpoint and abducted by car while shopping in Tredyffrin Township on Monday afternoon.
It happened around 5:15pm when the male victim was buying milk from Target at the Devon Square shopping centre.
“He started his vehicle, tried to put it in reverse, two men entered the passenger side of his vehicle. According to the victim, both actors pointed guns at him, demanded his key fob, wallet and asked him to get out of the vehicle,” said Tredyffrin Detective Sergeant Jim Slavin.
Police said one of the suspects then stole the victim’s car. The other suspect drove away in a separate Nissan Altima.
According to officials, the victim was not physically injured, but local residents say it’s uncharacteristic of the area.
“This is definitely very concerning because one of the things I always talk about and why I moved to the area is that I feel like it’s so safe, especially as a woman,” said Wayne’s Brenna Fallows .
The victim’s car was later found in Philadelphia. The police don’t know who did this and why. One resident said she was frustrated that she wasn’t notified of the crime sooner.
“My daughter is driving, my son is driving, everyone is here. My neighbor’s kids, they work here and everyone and we really needed to be made aware of this and we want that to stop,” Wayne’s Tina Reddy said.
Tredyffrin officials said they hadn’t had a carjacking since 2019.
Police said there has been a spike in stolen vehicles in Chester County, with evidence suggesting the suspects are from Wilmington, Delaware.
In this case, investigators don’t know where the suspects came from and are still trying to find them.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Tredyffrin Township Police Department.
