Thai Prime Minister to Stay in Office After Court Ruling

Thailand’s Prime Minister, prayer Chan-ocha, will remain in office after the country’s constitutional court ruled he has not exceeded his term, a victory for the leader ahead of next year’s elections.

The verdict came in a case filed by opposition parties alleging Mr Prayut, a former army chief who led a coup in 2014, had met the eight-year deadline mandated by the country’s constitution. They claimed his tenure began after the coup in 2014, when Mr Prayut was elected prime minister by an interim legislation handpicked by his junta.
