“That’s not my style” – Antonio Rudiger comments on playing alongside ‘nice and elegant’ Chelsea teammate

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has shared his experience playing alongside veteran midfielder Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian joined the Stamford Bridge side on a free transfer from PSG in 2020 and has been a key figure in their backline ever since. Silva’s partnership with Rudiger is one of the best in the Premier League, and the Brazilian shows no signs of slowing down despite being 37 years old.

Rudiger says there is a lot to learn from Silva but emphasizes that their playing style is different. Silva is more relaxed in his play, while the German considers himself uncompromising in his approach.

Chelsea’s defense without Antonio Rüdiger and Thiago Silva… Not the same.

In an interview with DAZN, the 29-year-old was asked if there was anything he could still learn from the former AC Milan man, to which Rudiger replied:

“When a personality with such a great experience is with you, you naturally learn something. But I have my own style. Everything looks nice and elegant with Thiago, but that’s not the style. my way towards me. I try to be tougher, uncompromising defender.”

Silva has made 79 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, lifting three titles, including the UEFA Champions League.

He has also contributed seven goals – scoring five and assisting two. In January, he extended his stay for another year, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until June 2023. With Rudiger set to leave the club this summer, having signed a four-year deal with Real Madrid , Silva may have a new defensive partner next season .

Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger looks to bow to FA Cup glory

Rudiger still has one more title to go before his departure, as Chelsea prepare to play in the FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday, May 14.

It is also the club’s last chance to win another title this season, after winning the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup last year. Leaving with FA Cup glory would be the perfect farewell for the 29-year-old, who was once the best centre-back of his generation.
