The 11 ‘silent’ cancer symptoms that can creep up and must never be ignored

HALF of us will eventually get cancer, and it’s a disease that affects every family.

In recent days broadcaster Dame Esther Rantzen, 82, has revealed she has lung cancer and former royal butler Paul Burrell, 64, has spoken out on his prostate cancer diagnosis.

It’s a disease that weighs on people’s minds, and our Sun Health poll found that 54 percent of readers are worried about getting a cancer diagnosis.

The four most common cancers in the UK are breast, lung, prostate and colon cancer, the latter being the disease that Sun columnist Dame Deborah James drew so much attention to before she died of it last June.

A healthy lifestyle—not smoking, regular exercise, and a nutritious diet—can reduce your risk.

Many forms of the disease are treatable, and the earlier the cancer is detected, the more treatable it is.

As we prepare for World Cancer Day on Saturday, here are the top symptoms to watch out for and talk to your GP, according to the NHS. . .

  • you have been coughing for three weeks or more
  • You notice a change in bowel habits that lasts three weeks or more, including: blood in your stools, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea or constipation for no apparent reason
  • You have had bloating for three weeks or more
  • You have unexplained bleeding, e.g. B. between periods, from the bottom, when coughing or vomiting
  • You find a lump in your breast or elsewhere on your body that is increasing in size
  • You have a mole that is changing shape, size, or color, or itches or bleeds
  • You have unexplained weight loss
  • You suffer from persistent abdominal or back pain
  • You regularly get indigestion or heartburn for no apparent reason
  • Your skin becomes itchy or yellow
  • You constantly feel tired, unwell, or have a feeling that something is wrong
  • Keep in mind that it’s unlikely to be cancer, but it’s wise to have symptoms like these checked out for peace of mind so your doctor can do further testing.
