The BBC pundit felt the Rangers duo were left feeling frustrated in Ross County

Rangers impressed John Robertson with their possession dominance in Ross County this Friday. But the Gers’ lack of “focal point” still frustrated James Tavernier and Scott Arfield.

Michael Beale continued his unbeaten start at Ibrox after John Lundstram (35) scored the only goal in the 1-0 win. The midfielder homed the ball in from the edge of the Staggies area at Victoria Park. But only after a series of key saves from Gers goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.

McLaughlin replaced Allan McGregor in the Ibrox Natives line-up after the Rangers No. 1 fell ill ahead of the game against Ross County. But the spare shot-stopper stood firm as he denied George Harmon early on. The 35-year-old reacted well and blocked a header from just four meters.

Beale also made changes to his attack when Alfredo Morelos was on the bench as Fashion Sakala was given a central role. The 25-year-old finished the game having fired the most shots of any player on either side. But Sakala would only miss one of his four attempts.

Sakala missed a glaring scoring opportunity in the 19th minute while Ross Laidlaw failed to see the striker in the 54th minute. It was the Zambian’s last meaningful shot before Morelos took over and matched his four shots. But according to WhoScored, he also only aimed one on target.

Rangers impressed Robertson, but Ross County left Tavernier and Arfield frustrated

Former Ross County boss Robertson hinted during the game that the Rangers’ lack of a natural central forward to direct the Gers’ attacks frustrated Tavernier and Arfield. They finished the game after creating just one chance each. Adam Devine created the most at four.

“This is impressive possession for Rangers,” he told BBC Sportsound. “But in the last third they have no focus. tavern [and] Arfield, they want players to play out and play double wins. Malky Mackay will be pretty happy they’re not opening.”

Rangers manager Beale brought on Ryan Jack for Arfield in the 67th minute of his first Premier League start since October 22. The substitute created two chances and matched efforts from Ryan Kent, Malik Tillman and fellow substitute Rabbi Matondo – who replaced Tillman.
