Apple lovers who keep losing their keys have a new way to keep track of them with the introduction of AirTags. But despite the easy setup, Apple’s tiny Bluetooth trackers have one critical flaw: no built-in keychain hole. That means anyone who buys AirTags has to buy holders or cases to attach them to their stuff.

While this seems backward, it’s a very Apple move, as many will simply buy the company’s AirTag holders to make things easier for themselves. But those aren’t the only options available, as many accessory manufacturers have jumped on the AirTag bandwagon with their own cases, holders, straps, and more. If you’ve already bought an AirTag or two, you probably know where you want to place them – and that placement will dictate the type of case you should buy for them. These are some of our most popular AirTag cases, suitable for a variety of items.

Spigen Valentinus

Spigen Valentinus for AirTag

Spigen’s Valentinus AirTag Cover is one of the best alternatives I’ve found to Apple’s own leather keyrings. It’s very similar in design to the first-party accessories (albeit made of faux leather), but it’s a lot cheaper at just $8. Your AirTag nestles into the perfectly formed circle of leather and snaps into place, and since the leather extends slightly beyond either side of the tracker, it’s very unlikely to pop out unexpectedly. I also appreciate that it comes with a carabiner style key ring which makes it easier to attach to your belongings.

Orbitkey leather holder

Orbitkey leather holder for AirTag

Orbit key

Orbitkey’s leather AirTag holder is a sleeker version of Apple’s accessory. It’s a genuine leather case that opens just wide enough to slip your AirTag into its pocket. It has a quick release ring attached that takes some getting used to, but once you know how to open it, it’s easy to attach to the keys. Essentially, all you have to do is push the holder’s ring in one direction to unlock it, allowing you to attach the AirTag to a lanyard, your car keys, and the like. It’s a good option if you prefer your accessories to have a more polished look.

Fallology Vault

Apple AirTag with Caseology Vault

Valentina Palladino / Engadget

Caseology’s Vault has a more purposeful design made from tough, textured TPU. The oval holder has an opening on one side to insert your AirTag. The other side has a smaller opening that attaches to the included carabiner, which is one of the best clips I’ve come across in my testing. It’s pretty basic as far as carabiners go, but it’s better than a regular key ring – especially if you just want to attach your AirTag to something other than your keys, e.g. B. Straps on a backpack or even a pet collar. Overall, the Caseology Vault is one of the most attractive holders I’ve tested and will be a solid choice for those who don’t need leather.

Incase Woolenex AirTag key clip

Incase Woolenex AirTag key clip

In the event of

Incase’s Woolenex AirTag holder is as attractive as it is durable. The company’s Woolenex fabric is a woven blend of polyester fibers that make the accessory lightweight, water-repellent, fade-resistant and tear-resistant. Incase makes a lot of accessories out of this material, and those who like quality fabrics that can take a bit of wear and tear will be drawn to it. The holder has a TPU snap and a circular cutout so it doesn’t interrupt the AirTag’s signal – plus you can see any cute engravings you might have on your tracker.

Belkin Security Holder with Straps

Apple AirTag with Belkin Secure Holder and Strap

AirTags can also help you keep track of larger bags and luggage, and you could just slip one into an inside pocket and call it a day. However, if you prefer to mount the tracker on the outside, you’ll need something bigger and more flexible than a standard key ring. Belkin’s Secure Holder with Strap is a good option, and at just $13 it’s budget-friendly. The case opens in two so you can place the AirTag in a circle and twist and snap the two halves together to lock it in place. You can then use the strap to attach the AirTag to your luggage handle, water bottle, or other item. which feels pretty strong.

I appreciate the unique design of the Belkin secure holder, although it was difficult to twist open with the AirTag inside. But that’s a good thing for everyday use; Your AirTag isn’t going anywhere when it’s in the secure holder. I also liked the slightly raised edges that provide extra protection from bumps and bumps.

Elago silicone cases

Elago AirTag case

Whether you attach an AirTag to your house keys or attach one to your child’s backpack, you don’t have to settle for a boring mount. There is now a range of fun AirTag cases and some of our favorites are from Elago. The accessories company makes a line of minimalist AirTag holders — good options if you’re looking for something simple and cheap — but it also has cases shaped like avocados, ice cream bars, floppy disks, and even retro game controllers. The best part is that unlike other brands who can quickly raise prices if you want a fancy shaped case or holder with your favorite character on it, Elago’s playful cases won’t cost you more than $15 each .

Pelican Protector sticker holder

Pelican Protector sticker holder for AirTag

Keychains and straps aren’t the best way to attach an AirTag to anything and everything. Things like bikes, coolers, luggage, and other items would be better served with an adhesive mount. Pelican offers one of the most protective cases available today – the Protector Sticker Mount case has a two-piece design that you can unfold to slip your AirTag inside. It basically acts like a little box that your AirTag lives in while it keeps track of your belongings. You can attach it to your items using the strong adhesive pad on the back of the case, and Pelican even includes an extra adhesive pad in the box if you need another. While the case itself is a bit difficult to open initially, this just goes to show how difficult it would be for your AirTag to accidentally pop out.

Moment stretch fabric mount

Moment stretch webbing mount for AirTag

Similar to Pelican’s Protector, Moment’s Stretch Fabric Mount for AirTag adheres to surfaces – in this case, any fabric – and holds your tracker in its double-lined powermesh design. It’s a good alternative if you don’t want your AirTag sliding around in the inside pocket of your backpack or worse, the less secure pockets of your coat. And since Moment’s Wrap is quite thin, it blends better with the lining of bags, jackets and other items than bulkier options.
