The best pizza in the world isn’t in Italy – it’s actually in the UK

It’s safe to assume that Italy is home to the best pizza maker in the world.
However, the best slice on the planet is actually in the UK, prepared by chef Michele Pascarella.
Michele is the founder of Napoli on the Road restaurant in Chiswick, West London, and was named Global Pizza Maker of the Year 2023 at the World 50 Top Pizza Awards.
The chef started making pizzas at the age of 11 and talked about it Chiswick calendar that the Top 50 Awards are “like the Michelin Guide for pizza”.
After moving to the UK at the age of 19, he founded Napoli on the Road, which, as the name suggests, started as a food truck selling slices at food markets and festivals.
He has since settled into his place in Chiswick, where his talents have now earned him worldwide recognition.
The selection process for the Top 50 awards is “very mysterious” and involves anonymous restaurant visits from pizza critics.
When asked how to create the perfect piece, Michele said that passion and love are more important than recipes.
He said Time out : “It’s not just about making the perfect dough or finding the best ingredients.
“It’s about the artistry and passion that goes into each piece.”
The Napoli on the Road website claims Michele was the first pizza maker to serve “contemporary high-crust pizza” in the UK, describing him as a “pioneer”.
It is reading: “Michele Pascarella started his business by traveling around London in his Ape Piaggio making wood-fired pizzas.
“Chef Michele is considered the first pizza maker to bring contemporary high-crust pizza to the UK and is now considered a ‘pioneer of modern pizza’.”
The good news for people wanting to try Michele’s Pizza is that Napoli on the Road opened its second location in Richmond this summer, meaning there are now twice as many chances.
Your menu offers classic pizza options from £10.95 as well as some of Michelle’s signature pizzas which cost a little more.
However, the menu changes every three months, with Michele focusing on “using only seasonal ingredients” in his food.
For pizza fans who don’t want to enjoy their slice in the city, there’s also a unique place in the UK where you can eat it on the beach.
Caffi Traeth Aberdaron, or the Aberdaron Beach Café, in Gwynedd, Wales, keeps visitors to the picturesque bay feeling full and refreshed with pizza and a selection of beers.
Some customers even say it’s the best pizza they’ve ever tasted.
One wrote on TripAdvisor: “The best pizza we’ve ever eaten! Perfect after a morning at the beach with the dog! We went there several times during our vacation and it’s only our third day!”
Another said: “Pizzas are fabulous, paninis and pies really good. Ideal location for beach days.”
By now this might be the best McDonald’s restaurant in the world.
And you can enjoy great pizza in London even if you’re on a budget.
