In an article in YahooDan Bubb, a former pilot and airline professor, said: “You might think it would be a good idea to put your passport in a secure pocket of your carry-on where it is less likely to get lost, but that could be a huge mistake.” ”

Dan explained that on fully booked flights, passengers may be asked to check their carry-on bags in the hold when boarding the plane.

Once baggage is checked into the hold at the gate, it will be tagged with your final destination.

This means that you won’t get your baggage back until you reach baggage claim.

However, you will not be able to access baggage claim without your passport, meaning you will be stuck at border controls.

In case you accidentally check your passport with your checked baggage, Dan has some advice for you.

He added: “If you accidentally check your baggage at the gate [with] If you have your passport in it, it is best to contact an airline customer service agent at the gate where the plane arrived and inform them of the incident.”

Some airport staff may be kind to your situation and help you retrieve the bag so you can clear border controls.

However, this is not a guarantee and you may need to contact the embassy at your final destination for assistance.

If you are traveling with hand luggage only, it is best to keep your passport with you in a safe place.

And frequent traveler Jane Frawley said she hates it when people don’t know where their passport is when they get to the gate.

She kept writing Flee: “While you are travelling, there are only three places your passport should be: in your hand, in the hands of an airline or customs officer, or in a safe, easily accessible place in your luggage or clothing.

“Too many times I’ve seen people frantically feel their bodies like they’re doing a crazy macarena because they don’t know if their passport is on the side/top/middle/secret spot in their carry-on luggage or at the back/front is /in/hidden pocket of your jacket or pants.

Meanwhile, these are the passport errors that could ruin your vacation and weigh you down financially.
