Despite fan pleas for another series, the broadcaster and its Australian counterpart Network 10 have put the drama on hold.

The Sun understands it was originally intended to be a four-part series, although there was scope for more episodes.

A source said, “The bosses have been delighted with the fan reaction to Riptide, but they have no plans to revisit it.”

Riptide saw the lives of newlyweds Alison (Jo Joyner) and Sean (Peter O’Brien) devastated after they settled in Australia.

Alison was devastated when Sean went surfing one morning and didn’t return home.

After an extensive search of the shore near her home, police conclude that Sean drowned in a dangerous flood.

However, it later turned out that there was more to the story than meets the eye.

Riptide was filmed on location in Melbourne and Victoria, with production limited to a few weeks in August 2022.

The series was created by Jason Herbison, who is also executive producer of Neighbors.

This comes on the heels of news that Channel 5 has renewed crime drama Dalgliesh, which is about detective Adam Dalgliesh, for another series.

The broadcaster announced that a third episode had been given the green light.

Filming will take place this year, with the thriller adapting three other novels from PD James’ internationally successful crime bestsellers.
