Maybe he’s skipping the martinis? James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has revealed that the franchise is in the process of “reinventing” 007 following Daniel Craig’s departure and that “filming is at least two years away”. Here’s what you need to know.
According to Deadline, the franchise boss was speaking at a British Film Institute (BFI) event in London honoring Broccoli – the daughter of original Bond boss Albert “Cubby” Broccoli – and her half-brother and fellow Bond producer Michael G Wilson with BFI grants.
The James Bond franchise could go in a whole new direction
When asked who would take on the Bond role, Broccoli was quoted as saying: “Nobody’s in the running. We think about where to go with him, we talk it through.”
“There’s no script, and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because it’s really a Bond reinvention,” she continued. “We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I would say filming is at least two years away.”
It has not yet been decided who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. Broccoli and Michael G Wilson told reporters that they want to focus more on celebrating Daniel’s achievements rather than immediately searching for his replacement.
“No chasing. Daniel Craig – I want him to stay Bond for as long as possible,” Broccoli told ITV News. “It’s very difficult, he’s been tremendous. I think tonight is about celebrating his achievements and to give him his time. And we’re also celebrating all the true heroes we’re recognizing here tonight, the people who got us through the pandemic.”
Wilson said the filmmakers were desperate to reveal No Time To Die to fans. He said: “We are ready to show the film to the public. We’ve waited more than 18 months and here it is.”
