Last month, Instagram began testing full-screen viewing for photos and videos. And we didn’t like it. Now Instagram boss Adam Mosseri says the test will be phased out in the next few weeks. “People are frustrated with the new feed designs and the usage data isn’t great,” Mosseri said platformer.
He added, “If you discover something in your field that you haven’t followed before, there should be a high bar – it should just be great,” he said. “You should be pleased to see it. And I don’t think that’s happening just enough.”
Instagram brought in the full-screen feed and a larger number of featured posts to compete with TikTok and struggle with the photo-to-video shift. The time people spent watching reels grew 30 percent last quarter, and Mosseri said the gradual adoption of videos by users has happened independently of Instagram’s own movements.
In a earnings call Wednesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said around 15 percent of the posts people see on Facebook (and even more on Instagram) are recommended by algorithms. Zuckerberg expects the volume of featured posts to double in the next year or so.

NASA wanted to bring back the rock samples that the Perseverance rover drilled and collected from Jezero Crater. Their journey to and from the red planet will take years, so the samples are not expected to arrive on Earth until 2033.

The Inflation Reduction Act would also offer credits for used electric vehicles.
Automakers may get the electric vehicle tax credit extension they’ve been hoping for. Senators Chuck Schumer and Joe Manchin may have agreed on an inflation-mitigating bill that would replace the 200,000-unit cap on federal electric vehicle tax credits with a system that would restore those benefits to GM, Tesla and Toyota. Corresponding Bloomberg Sources say the new approach is a compromise that would switch to price- and income-based caps, drop union manufacturing requirements and even offer credits for used electric vehicles.

Google’s latest Pixel Buds are their best yet, largely due to the company finally ticking a missing box: active noise cancellation.
