The pundit can’t see the La Liga giants signing Liverpool and Tottenham’s goal

Ale Moreno has wondered why Real Madrid would sign Liverpool and Tottenham target Joško Gvardiol given the quality and depth Carlo Ancelotti already has behind him, he told ESPN.

The Croatian World Cup star was one of the standout players in Qatar and Moreno pointed out how his “price went up”.

In addition to the current European Cup winners, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea are also eyeing the 20-year-old RB Leipzig centre-back, who is playing Champions League football this season and is playing at a high level.

On paper Real Madrid might not need him at the moment but as they have shown with their recent midfield conquests they would still be willing to shop for the future and add talent to continue their dominance, particularly in Europe.

Maybe Gvardiol will be the next kid off the block, at the end of the day the Spanish giants are happy to buy a player off the back of a strong World Cup campaign.

That’s definitely something to watch out for and while Gvardiol would join Real Madrid on occasion, Moreno questioned why they were throwing so much money at him.

“You think about who he would support as a player and that’s David Alaba,” Moreno said. “He was outstanding for Real Madrid.

“I don’t think you want to call him a left-back at this point in his career – in terms of needs other than ‘want’. For Real Madrid’s needs, I don’t think they need another centre-back.

“I don’t think now is the right time to spend all that money on Gvardiol considering how hot it was at the World Cup and how its price has gone up. I don’t know if that’s the one you pursue when you’re Real Madrid.”

With Arsenal sitting at the top of the Premier League surprising many with their start to the campaign, Newcastle United add that they spoil the party and sit in the Champions League spots.

Then the race for Champions League football could throw up some surprises this season and Liverpool and Spurs don’t want to be at the bottom.

So this upcoming transfer window could be crucial for changing gears in the second half of the season and as Spurs proved with Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski last January these new faces can make a big, big difference.
