The weather in Manchester frustrated England as their hopes of qualifying for Sunday’s Ashes Series were dashed by unrelenting rain after an interrupted matchday on Saturday.

The weather also dampened the mood at the Open, but not for the American Brian Harman, who won with a six-stroke lead.

There were no such problems at the Women’s World Cup, where England opened their season with a 1-0 win over Haiti, while the holders, USA, defeated Vietnam 3-0.

In Paris, Jonas Vingegaard was crowned Tour de France champion for the second time in a row.
