For fans of the Screambox horror documentary Pennywise: The History of IT, you don’t have to wait 27 years to add these in-depth insights to your collection. After premiering in select theaters in July, this acclaimed documentary will be made available on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray with exclusive bonus features for fans looking for more behind-the-scenes content. The Collector’s Edition is scheduled for release on November 22nd.
Directed in 1990, just four years after the publication of King’s novel Tommy Lee Wallace directed the two-part miniseries IT, which aired on television, later became known as the defining horror moment in many children’s lives. With Tim Curry as a child-eating nightmare clown, IT took televised horror to places it had never been before. in the Pennywise: The History of ITDocumentary filmmakers directed it Johannes Campopiano and Christopher Griffiths, we get a source of exclusive interviews and never-before-seen archive footage. The documentary features behind-the-scenes insights from the cast and crew, discusses the miniseries’ lasting impact on pop culture, and additional images and footage with Curry.
Now SCREAMBOX, the streaming service from Cinedigm and Bloody Disgusting, has announced the release of the Collector’s Edition Blu-ray, available for pre-order ahead of the official release. The Collector’s Blu-ray not only includes six additional bonus features that are completely exclusive to this edition, but also marks the first-ever Collector’s Edition of SCREAMBOX.
In the original series, Curry played the infamous creature Pennywise, who returns from hibernation to King’s fictional city of Derry, Maine, to stalk and hunt the city’s children and feed on their fear. The miniseries written by Wallace and Lawrence D Cohen, aired on ABC, and was split into two parts. Some followed the hapless group of children when they first discovered Pennywise, and the second saw them as adults returning to Derry to fulfill a pact they had made should the being ever return. The series featured an ensemble cast, which was included Emily Perkins, Seth Green, John Knight, Annette O’Toole, Olivia Hussey, Tim Reid and Richard Thomas. The documentary features interviews with some of the original cast, including Thomas, Green and Curry, as well as director Wallace.
The six exclusive Collector’s Edition bonus features are:
- “The Book Cover” which takes viewers back to the original “IT” manuscript and cover design with the artist Bob Giusti
- “A Deeper Look at the Music” with an extensive interview with the composer Richard Bellisabout the inspiration for his classical score
- “Georgie: A Short Film” is a short film starring cast members from the original miniseries
- In Childhood Phobias, the miniseries cast and crew discuss their own childhood fears
- The extras of “IT” include short interviews with miniseries extras and additional crew
- And The Legacy Continues, which is packed with in-depth commentary on the legacy and longevity of the “IT” miniseries.
