It gained notoriety as the location for the film Children‘S TV Balamory.

But in recent years, the Scottish city has been compared to an island in Italy.

Tobermory is compared to Burano, an Italian island near Venice.

Both destinations have a row of colorful houses lining their boardwalks and walkways.

in one current article, travel Blogger Angela Price compared destinations across the UK to holiday hotspots around the world.

She wrote: “While the small town of Burano in Italy has a fantastic range of colorful houses, Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides is a fishing village with colorful harborside buildings and a busy high street.

In Tobermory the brightly colored houses are a mix of Housesrestaurants and souvenir shops.

But there is more to do on the island than just admire the colorful buildings.

From the port, tourists can book whale watching and other marine wildlife tours, including porpoise watching.

Holidaymakers can also book a tour of the local whiskey distillery.

As well as sea wildlife tours, vacationers can also go island hopping to nearby Staffa Island and the Treshnish Isles.

Other things to do in Tobermory include a visit to the Mull Museum and Mull Aquarium.

For tourists who want to do more than just spend a day at the beach, Calgary Bay is a 30 minute drive across the island.

Tobermory and the Isle of Mull are best reached by taking a passenger ferry from Oban, which takes around 45 minutes.

There are several cafes and restaurants in Tobermory for visitors to grab a bite to eat including Macgochan’s which serves traditional pub favourites.

And if you’d like to stay overnight there are plenty of places to choose from including the Park Lodge Hotel which costs around £70 a night.

This isn’t the only place in the UK where this has been the case compared to Italy.

The village of Portmeirion in Gwynedd is compared to the Italian Riviera for its al fresco dining areas and colorful buildings.

Meanwhile, the traditional coastal town Skegness has been compared to the American city for some years.
