The UK seaside town featuring in new Hollywood blockbuster – & is so cool that even Americans are moving there

A SEASIDE town in the UK has starred in a new Hollywood blockbuster – and it’s so popular that even Americans are moving there.

The town of Margate in Kent has recently been featured on a number of ‘cool’ lists, being named by Time Out as one of the UK’s trendiest neighborhoods.

It has since been featured in the new Sam Mendes film Empire of Light, starring Olivia Colman.

The film is set in the 1980s and is set in the Dreamland cinema, which has been converted for the film but remains closed to the public.

There’s even an Empire of Light film tour to see all the filming locations, including the Lido and the Victorian train station.

As someone who lives here myself, I’m rarely surprised by the ‘cool’ factor given to Margate thanks to its abundance of local wine bars, cafes and shops selling books and artwork.

There are also a number of art galleries popping up.

In addition to the well-known Turner Contemporary, this also includes the Hotel Michele and the Pie Factory, which are even moving to the USA.

Robert Diament, director of the Carl Freedman Gallery alongside actor Russel Tovey. told the Guardian that Margate is going “international”.

He added, “Artists are moving here from Brooklyn.”

Some have even gone so far as to call it Britain’s “Ibiza,” according to Tatler.

There are also all the new hotels that are popping up.

The Fort Road Hotel overlooks the harbour, co-working space and Hotel Selina, while Guesthouse plans to open its fourth hotel by Spring 2023.

And that’s not forgetting Libertine’s own Albion Rooms hotel.

Margate’s food scene is also a bit of a show-off.

There’s Dory’s seafood restaurant, no reservations required unless you visit sister restaurant Angela’s around the corner, as well as Italian Bottega Caruso, very popular with locals.

Most visitors will try to visit Sargasso – seating is in short supply, but it’s worth it for the many praises it’s received from food critics.

Also home to Britain’s oldest amusement park and Britain’s largest tide pool, you’d be mad not to visit the seaside resort of Kent.
