Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has insisted that Virgil van Dijk is their most important player instead of Mohamed Salah, who he feels could be replaced.
Both players have played a key role in the club’s title race over the past three years, with Van Dijk widely hailed as the best centre-back and Salah as the best winger.
The Egyptian has scored a lot since joining AS Roma in 2017, scoring 155 goals in 252 games while providing another 63 assists.
Van Dijk, meanwhile, who arrived on Merseyside six months later in a staggering £75m move from Southampton, is a force to be reckoned with in defence.
These stars are the mainstay of Jurgen Klopp’s transformative side and many Liverpool fans will argue that both Salah and Van Dijk are equally important.
However, Redknapp drew an interesting parallel between the Red Devils duo, arguing that the Egyptian amulet was replaceable but the towering Dutchman was not, making him the throne. their brightest star.
Talk to Sky (via Watch Anfield), the 48-year-old said:
“For me, Virgil van Dijk is the most important player for the club. I wouldn’t give anyone more money than him. That’s how I see it.
“I know strikers should get more, in that condition it’s always been, but whatever Virgil gets, he should get the most. They’ll find another Mo Salah. You can’t find another Mo Salah. see another Virgil van Dijk right now.”
While opinion divided fans in the comments, Redknapp further explained that Liverpool could always bring in another top-quality striker in place of Salah. He say:
“Theoretically, Liverpool could, if they lose him, find a replacement for Salah. His goals, his numbers, are unbelievable, but there will always be another great striker. come to this club. They have had a lot in the past. , they will have a lot in the future.”
It will be interesting to see what either player has to say about this review.
