Three homicide victims found inside burning Riverside home; suspect killed by sheriff’s deputies

Riverside Police responding to a house fire on Friday found the bodies of three people killed in what police are investigating as a triple homicide.

Around 10:30 a.m., police dispatchers filed a welfare claim on a man and woman who had “some sort of disturbance” outside a home in the 11200 block of the Price Court, said Officer Ryan Railsback, a spokesman for the Riverside Police Department .

As police were out, dispatchers were receiving calls from motorists on the nearby 91 freeway as smoke was pouring from a home on the same block. Firefighters responded and put out the fire when they discovered the bodies of a man and two women inside, Railsback said.

“It was evident that all three were victims of homicide,” said Railsback, who was killed before the fire broke out. He declined to say what led the detectives to that conclusion, saying only that it was based “on physical evidence.”

Railsback declined to identify the victims or characterize the relationship between them. He said the coroner is still notifying their families.

The man and woman whose disturbance triggered the emergency response were gone when police and firefighters arrived, Railsback said.

The man, whom Railsback named as a suspect in the triple homicide, was tracked Friday night as far north as San Bernardino County, where he was killed by sheriff’s deputies near Needles.

The circumstances of that shooting were unclear on Saturday. “This is a multi-agency investigation and it will take time to sort through and confirm all of the details,” said Gloria Huerta, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Huerta said a woman was in the car with the man who was killed by MPs. She was “safe with law enforcement,” Huerta said.

It is unclear if this was the same woman involved in the Price Court disturbance.

What role, if any, the woman played in the triple murder is a focus of the Riverside investigation.

“We don’t know at this point if she is a victim, a witness, or a suspect,” Railsback said. “Our investigators are still working to uncover all the facts.”
