BRIDGETON, NJ (WPVI) — “You know, you have friends here and there, but when it comes to sisters, you’re best friends no matter what,” Grace Albert said. “You always love her.”
Albert can’t remember a time when her younger twin sisters, Isabella and Gabriella, weren’t by her side. The 17-year-old Cumberland Regional High School junior joined the tennis team during her freshman year and the twins soon followed.
“We have breakfast together, we have dinner together, we do everything together,” Albert said. “Bringing that onto the pitch gives a different sense of teammates and camaraderie that you can’t duplicate.”
The sisters have a unique dynamic that allows them to encourage, correct and encourage one another throughout practice and tournament. But every now and then they are pitted against each other.
“There are challenge games in tennis,” said head coach Devon Land. “So the sisters have to actually all be beating each other to earn those first, second, and third places.”
That year, the sisters achieved their singles rankings in the order they were born. Gabriella is third in the singles while Isabella, just an hour older, was second. First up is Grace Albert, also a captain.
“I feel like an extra confidence and an extra boost knowing they’re right by my side,” said Gabriella Albert. “Like I have my accomplices right next to me.”
The girls are currently looking forward to a South Jersey Group 2 final in just a few days. Her team’s current record is 10-3 and in Tri-County 7-0.
However, Coach Land said it’s not just about the score.
“They’re better kids than players, that’s what I’m all about,” he said.
Once all sisters graduate, the potential to play at the college level will present itself. But no matter what, they’re confident they’ll play tennis together when they grow old.
“I’m just so grateful that they’re in my life,” said Isabella Albert. “And I love them so much and I’m so lucky to be with them.”
