Three tips on lift-sharing to help you save cash and stay safe

Soaring fuel costs have made driving again a huge drain on family resources.
Elevator sharing is a way to save cash without cutting commuting.
But it’s something most of us never do — even though half of drivers say they would consider carpooling, according to research by Esso.
If you want to give it a try, follow these tips. . .
UP YOU: Drivers using the liftshare carpooling platform save an average of £1,034 a year, according to the website.
This service is free to use. Simply put the itinerary you want to do on the website and Liftshare will connect you with other members and you can request to share.
The service offers a contribution proposal from the passenger to the driver, which can be exchanged directly between you.
The partnership between Liftshare and Esso means you can become a member of the site and receive 500 Nectar bonus points on your next purchase at Esso.
Other platforms, such as BlaBlaCar and Getaround, work in a similar way.
HANDLE: Commuting to work is a regular journey that many of us take on a daily basis.
If you can find someone who does the same journey on a regular basis, it makes sense to share the load with a coworker.
Some companies facilitate elevator sharing, but if yours does not, you can suggest this idea to your human resources department.
You can try to organize yourself by asking colleagues if there are any interests and starting from there.
Platforms like Liftshare can be set up so you only match people from the same company or address.
KEEP SAFE: You may find it difficult to share an elevator with someone you’ve never met before.
Liftshare asks not to share your full name or address before you meet someone.
When meeting someone, choose a public place and let friends and family know your plans.
If you don’t feel comfortable, you don’t have to take the elevator.
