TikTok For You page getting dull? Enter: Refresh

TikTok is reportedly toying with a new feature that will let you reset your For You page if it gets boring.

When you create an account on TikTok for the very first time, your For You page isn’t actually For You because it doesn’t know You still. So the algorithm gives you a variety of content, from dancing to crocheting to comedy, tracks what seems to interest you the most, and starts creating a “For You” page Is For her.

But sometimes this For You page may be out of date. Being served videos that the algorithm serves for you can be boring, or worse, harmful. For example, if the algorithm notices you staying and watching frog videos, it might only serve you amphibian-related TikTok videos — and you might eventually get bored of it. Or, let’s say your nephew scrolls your TikTok for a while – suddenly you’re inundated with cartoon videos and you need to find a way out.

That’s why TikTok is reportedly testing a new feature called Refresh, which will reset your For You page, TikTok spokesman Jamie Favazza told The Verge(Opens in a new window). The Verge reported that the feature will roll out to a small number of users over the next few days. TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mashable.

Refresh could be a way to make the social media platform a healthier, happier place — but it could also be a way to keep us logged in longer.
