TikToker explains the disgusting reason you should wash new clothes

A TikToker who has worked in retail explained why you should always wash new clothes after buying them before putting them on.

There’s nothing like a little shopping therapy to calm the mind, but a viral TikTok explained why you should always wash those fresh strands before wearing them yourself.

After the video was uploaded by TikToker Octagonglasses in April, it didn’t go viral until July 2022. However, she gives advice that has no expiration date.

TikToker explains why you should always wash “new” clothes

Octagon explains that she worked in retail at a clothing store where employees were forbidden from wearing non-brand items.

So instead of buying clothes from the store where she worked, most workers would simply grab the clothes off the shelf to wear for the day and then put them back.

“Most of the time we ended up going into the store, finding something that wasn’t sold, taking the tag off, putting it on and doing our shift,” she explained.

“We would work all day. We were sweating,” she added. “At the end of our shift, we would remove the clothes, put the tags back on, and then put them back in the store.”

Octagonglasses said she just wanted to raise awareness with her TikTok.

Other users in the comments with retail experience supported Octagon’s TikTok, saying they wore clothes that were later sold to customers as well.

“Yes it’s the same as my job!!” One user replied in the comments, “I work in a clothing store too. I think most clothing stores do though!”

So next time you come home from the mall or a day of shopping, toss your new purchases in the washing machine before putting them on yourself.
