‘Tips for Jesus’: Customer leaves $3,000 tip on $13 stromboli check in Scranton, Pennsylvania

SCRANTON, Pa. (WPVI) — A waitress in Scranton, Pa. received a generous tip last month after a customer ordered a $13.25 Stromboli, according to WNEP.

Mariana Lambert serves cakes at Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe.

Last month, she says, a man named Eric Smith paid her a visit and ordered a Stromboli.

Little did Lambert know that Smith was participating in the “Tips for Jesus” social media trend.

He left the waitress a $3,000 tip.

At first, neither Lambert nor her managers knew if the tip was genuine.

“We checked his card and everything went through. We took his ID and took photos of everything. They waited a bit to make sure it was real and went through it and it ended up being real,” Lambert told WNEP.

Lambert says she is incredibly grateful and hopes to pass it on to someone in the near future.
