Tom Cruise on Janet Jackson: ‘She’s amazing.’ I love her’
In a surprising turn of events, Tom Cruise did something understandable — he professed his love for Janet Jackson.
The skydiver and sofa jumper spoke with “entertainment tonight” on his admiration for the Rhythm Nation musician at the world premiere of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One on Sunday in Rome. Cruise mentioned that he used his day off last month to go to Jackson’s Together Again tour in Charlotte, North Carolina
“That was my evening off, that was my last break,” he said. “I just want to tell you go to Janet.”
The “Scream” artist kicked off her highly anticipated tour at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida in June with an epic setlist of over 40 songs and a guest appearance from “Today” co-host Sheinelle Jones.
The Top Gun actor insisted he’s just like any other fan when he goes to Jackson’s concerts, saying, “I’m right in the middle of it, yeah, come on!” It’s Janet, she’s a legend.”
But unlike the average fan, Cruise has a personal connection with the “Control” singer. After attending her performance in May, the on-screen thrill-seeker snapped a photo with Jackson, which was shared on her Instagram.
“T it was so nice to see you and lovely to spend some time together 😊,” Jackson captioned the duo’s backstage picture.
When asked if “T” is a common nickname that others call him, Cruise clarified that Jackson has special privileges.
“She can call me whatever she wants. She’s Janet Jackson,” said the Jerry Maguire star. “She is a goddess. She’s gorgeous. I love her, I love her music. She is also just an extraordinary person.”
Elsewhere in his ET interview, Cruise reflected on his career and the “incredible” experiences he’s had along the way.
“I pinch myself every day, I don’t take anything for granted,” he said. “I remember making ‘Taps’ when I was 18 and I remember when I was four I thought I wanted to make films and travel the world. I keep thinking, ‘This is so out of body.’ What’s going on?’ It’s wild and something I’ve never taken for granted… I just feel very privileged.”
The 60-year-old actor also recently addressed the news of Scarlett Johansson told the Hollywood Reporter that Cruise was the actor she would most like to work with.
“I’d love to do a movie with her!” he said. “I’ve always wanted to do a film with her. She is enormously talented. So charismatic, versatile. She obviously has excellent physical abilities.”
