Tottenham and West Ham want Brazilian talents, his club want to block January deal

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United want Pablo Maia but Sao Paulo are trying to prevent the midfielder from leaving in January.

90Min claimed earlier this month West Ham tried to sign midfielder Maia alongside team-mate Luizao.

However, Fulham and Tottenham are also chasing Maia and could compete with West Ham for Maia’s signature in 2023.

IG Esporte in Brazil reports that Sao Paulo expects to make “a good amount of money” for Maia very soon.

However, Sao Paulo does not want to sell Maia during the January window.

Sao Paulo are believed to believe they can make even more money for Maia by selling him during the European summer transfer window.

Maia’s thoughts are unclear, but he could hardly be blamed for wanting to move to Europe now.

These opportunities don’t come along too often and Maia may feel like he wants to take the chance while it’s on the table.

Adding that Sao Paulo want more money and Maia may feel a summer move could be blocked when clubs could potentially move their businesses elsewhere.

Who are Tottenham and West Ham targeting Pablo Maia?

Maia, 20, started out at two little-known Brazilian clubs, Independente de Limeira and Portuguesa Santista.

Sao Paulo struck in 2017 and Maia has now risen through the ranks at one of Brazil’s biggest clubs.

Maia has now made 61 first-team appearances for Sao Paulo, scoring two goals and one assist.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Maia has even shown his versatility by playing as a number 10 and as a centre-back.

How many players can claim to have played in all of these positions?

That versatility with Maia may attract Tottenham and West Ham, but convincing Sao Paulo to sell next month sounds like a very difficult challenge.
