Kompany wants Lokonga
Vincent Kompany is targeting a reunion with unwanted Arsenal star Albert Sambi Lokonga.
The 23-year-old has fallen out of favor under Mikel Arteta. He is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, where he has made nine appearances this season.
But the Eagles are reluctant to make the move permanent.
And that has left the door open for the 37-year-old Burnley boss, who mentored the Belgium midfielder at Anderlecht during the 2020-2021 season before joining Arsenal for £17million.
Kompany is a big fan of the £15m-valued Lokonga and once compared him to Premier League legend Yaya Toure.
The former Man City captain even revealed he recommended the youngster to Arteta before the giants migrated from north London.
Speaking of the player’s potential at Rio Ferdinand Mood with Five Speaking on the YouTube channel, Kompany said: “When I was still a player for City, I got to a point where I was thinking about my future. Management? Keep going? Sign a new contract?” said Kompany.
“I’ve watched football from different countries and in different places. And I saw Sambi play his first game – his first two games – then he hurt his knee.”
“But the first thing I did when I saw Sambi was I went to Mikel and said, ‘You have to keep an eye on this guy, he’s the new Yaya Toure.’
