Transgender star Laverne Cox showed off her 50-year-old bikini body on the beach yesterday. But Media Take Out noted that the T-girl made sure to carry a strategically placed Louis Vuitton purse… to hide her, um… tags.
Laverne is a transgender woman, but she still has her male body parts. In 2015, she explained why she decided against having reconstructive surgery on her private parts.
Laverne explained why she decided against it: “I’ve been picking myself apart my whole life. I’ve never discussed the medical details of my transition, and many people assume I had all of those surgeries. Years ago I really wanted highly invasive surgical procedures to feminize my face. All these years later I have the money for it, but I don’t want it. I do not want it! I am glad that God gave me this face and it is imperfect.”
And when an Instagram commenter told Cox she needed a nose job, her fans spoke out:
“My fans were like, ‘That’s the African American nose, and what’s wrong with that? My fans were behind me. In moments like that, I have to look in the mirror and say, that’s my black nose, and it’s beautiful.”
Laverne is an American actress and LGBT advocate. She is best known for her role as Sophia Burset on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, becoming the first transgender person to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in an acting category and the first to be nominated for an Emmy Award since Composer Angela Morley was nominated in 1990.
In 2015, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Special as executive producer for Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word, becoming the first trans woman to win the award. In 2017, she became the first transgender person to regularly star in a transgender series on US television as Cameron Wirth in CBS’ Doubt.
Cox appeared as a contestant on the first season of the VH1 reality show I Want to Work for Diddy and co-produced and co-hosted the VH1 television series TRANSform Me. In April 2014, Cox was cast by GLAAD with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award for her work as an advocate for the transgender community.
In June 2014, Cox became the first transgender person to appear on the cover of Time Magazine.
Cox is the first transgender person to appear on the cover of a Cosmopolitan magazine, with her February 2018 cover on the South African issue. She is also the first openly transgender person to have a wax figure of herself at Madame Tussauds.
