Outgoing The Daily Show host Trevor Noah made headlines on Thursday when he announced the completion of his seven-year tenure on the Comedy Central show. But shortly before that, he sparked dating rumors with “Levitating” pop star Dua Lipa.
The comedian and “Sweetest Pie” singer was photographed this week, just days before he announced the end of his Emmy-nominated run on the late-night series.
Noah, 38, and Lipa, 27, were spotted with Miss Lily in the East Village in New York City, according to the Daily Mail on Wednesday, who posted several photos from their rendezvous. (The same publication ran a Friday column by Meghan McCain entitled “I loved The Daily Show and Trevor Noah ruined it.”)
They “sat quietly away from everyone else in the restaurant,” a source told the tabloid. “It was clear that they were standing on top of each other and sat close together during the meal.”
Noah and Lipa reportedly went together after dinner and went for a walk, “stopping for long hugs,” a kiss and hugs.
Representatives for Noah and Lipa did not immediately respond to The Times requests for comment Friday.
The rumored romance comes not long after each of them said they ended their previous high-profile relationships. The ‘Cold Heart’ singer split from longtime boyfriend model Anwar Hadid – brother of models Gigi and Bella Hadid – in December. The Born a Crime writer reportedly broke up with actor girlfriend Minka Kelly last May.
It’s unclear when their relationship began, although the Daily Mail speculated their paths crossed at this year’s Grammy Awards, which Noah hosted in Las Vegas last April and which featured the English singer with rapper Megan Thee Stallion. (It was a twinning moment reminiscent of a stunt performed by music legends Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.)
Noah told his studio audience and viewers Thursday that he was retiring from The Daily Show, seven years after taking the job of comedian Jon Stewart. He has criticized President Trump, hosted luminaries, weathered the fickle COVID-19 pandemic and even feuded with rapper Kanye West during his run. (In case you haven’t read McCain’s article, the conservative argued that “Noah never lived up to his predecessor” in ratings and that he “made do with his influence as a ‘cool kid’ in the media.”)
“It’s time,” the late-night host said Thursday on television and online.
“I realized there was another part of my life that I wanted to explore further. I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and doing shows,” added the South African-born comedian. “I just miss being everywhere and doing everything.”
Series officials said there was “no timeline for his departure” and that they were “working together on the next steps.” We hope they address the dating rumors in his upcoming monologues.
