That Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic The remake is reportedly back in development… at a different studio. Corresponding Bloomberg, one of Saber Interactive’s Eastern European studios, has taken over the project after it was indefinitely suspended by Aspyr Media in July. Aspyr had been working on the project for years and had industry veterans on board as well as people who had worked on the original game released in 2003. A demo of the game has even been completed to show Lucasfilm and Sony on June 30th. But a week later, the company reportedly fired design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor.
The situation surrounding Prince and Minor wasn’t entirely clear, but a source spoke Bloomberg indicated at the time that the demo had cost a disproportionate amount of time and money. Rumors were reportedly circulating among Aspyr employees that Saber Interactive, which has been doing outsourced work on the project, would take the helm. These speculations could turn out to be true.
While none of the developers have issued an official statement as of yet, mega-game publisher Embracer may have alluded to the studio switch in its recent financial report. Embracer, which owns both Aspyr and Saber Interactive, said one of its “AAA projects has moved to another studio” within the company. “This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it for the title,” she added.
Embracer also said it doesn’t expect any major delays as a result of the transition, but it hasn’t Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was planned for release in the near future anyway. There’s no launch date yet, and it’s reportedly going to be at least two more years before it’s ready.
