Trump audio latest: Kevin McCarthy unsure Trump ‘strongest’ Republican candidate against Joe Biden in 2024

CNN plays a tape showing Trump showing what appear to be top-secret military documents
Despite his huge lead in a crowded Republican primary, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy says he doesn’t know if Donald Trump is the “strongest” candidate to rival President Joe Biden in the 2024 election.
In an interview on CNBC, Mr McCarthy said Mr Trump could beat Mr Biden but he wasn’t sure another Republican couldn’t do better. Later in the day, the speaker appeared to review the remarks tell beard that the former president is “stronger today than in 2016”.
On Monday night, a deafening audio recording revealed that after leaving the White House, the former president appeared to boast that he still possessed classified military documents on Iran.
In the recording from a July 2021 meeting at Mr. Trump’s bedminster Golf Club and released by CNN, the former President can be heard audibly shuffling the documents.
Mr Trump took to Truth Social to rant about the tape, railing against “deviant special prosecutor” Jack Smith and flatly accusing the Justice Department and FBI of leaking it.
Meanwhile, the indictment of Trump’s co-defendant in the classified documents case, his adviser Walt Nauta, in Miami was postponed after his flight was delayed due to inclement weather in New Jersey.

He says he has not seen the recording and the rustling of the paper can be heard, having previously said he has no classified documents.

Ivanka Trump has dismissed the New York AG fraud lawsuit against her father
A New York appeals court on Tuesday dismissed Ivanka Trump from a wide-ranging fraud lawsuit brought by the attorney general against her father and his company last year.
The civil lawsuit, filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, accused former President Donald Trump of adding billions of dollars to his net worth and deceiving banks, insurance companies and others about the value of his assets, including golf courses and the Mar-a-Lago- Estate. According to books, Stephen Miller blew up refugee boats with drones
In a new book by a former Trump administration aide, former top White House official Stephen Miller is accused of wanting to break international law by proposing to use military force against unarmed civilians attempting to emigrate to the United States.
A spokesman for Mr Miller denied that the conversation, which will be first detailed in an upcoming book by Miles Taylor, took place. Excerpts from the book were obtained from Rolling Stone and published on Tuesday.

Florida’s largest police union leaves Trump in support of DeSantis
Florida’s largest police union is breaking with former President Donald Trump to support the state’s Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
The Florida Police Benevolent Association, which has 30,000 members, announced Monday that it had endorsed Mr. DeSantis, giving the governor a boost. Florida FBA President John Kazanjian said in a statement that Mr. DeSantis was the best choice for union members.
