Trump today: Former president announces he is suing New York AG Letitia James

NEW YORK — Former President Donald Trump announced he would sue New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Trump announced the lawsuit on Wednesday evening on the Truth Social platform.

He said he filed the lawsuit against James in Florida and that “New York State is one of the most crime-ridden places in the world.”

Trump said James is doing nothing to protect New York from the crime and the criminals. The lawsuit alleges that she abused her position as an AG “to wage a relentless, damaging, public and all-out crusade against President Trump, a resident of Palm Beach County, Florida, with the stated goal of saving him personally, financially.” and to destroy politically.”

Trump released the following statement:

“Today I filed a lawsuit in Florida State Circuit Court against corrupt New York State Attorney General Letitia “Peekaboo” James. New York State is filled with murders, robberies, drug deals, and every other form of crime breaking weekly records. While James does nothing to protect New York from these violent crimes and criminals, she attacks great and genuine companies that have done nothing wrong, like the very successful, job- and tax-producing Trump Organization, which I have owned for a long period of years painstakingly built. Crooked and highly partisan James now thinks it’s up to the state of New York to pursue my revocable trust and invade my private estate plan, only to seek ways that would ruthlessly harm me, my family, my businesses, and my tens of millions of supporters If I weren’t elected President of the United States, and now in the polls by a significant margin against both the Democrats and Re Zöllner, that wouldn’t happen. We must stand up for our country, fight illegal persecution and make America great again!”

Trump and the Trump Organization are defendants in a lawsuit filed by James, who alleges that Trump and the company inflated his net worth by billions of dollars and misled banks and others about the value of various assets for years.

The former president’s lawsuit against James comes the same week his company, the Trump Organization, is on trial for criminal tax fraud — hooked by what prosecutors say was a 15-year plan by his most trusted lieutenant to get the Avoid paying taxes for these ancillary services.

The tax fraud case is the only criminal case to emerge from the Manhattan District Attorney’s three-year investigation into the former president, and is one of three active cases involving Trump or the company in New York courts.

A spokeswoman for James made the following statement:

“Several judges have dismissed Donald Trump’s baseless attempts to evade justice, and no number of court cases will stop us from prosecuting this fraud. We have sued Donald Trump for committing extensive financial fraud. That fact hasn’t changed, and neither will our determination to make sure no one is above the law, no matter how powerful or political someone is.”

If convicted, the Trump Organization could be fined more than $1 million and struggle to secure new loans and business. Some partners and government agencies may try to cut ties with the company. It could also affect its ability to do business with the US Secret Service, which sometimes pays the company for housing and services while protecting Trump as a former president.
