This is clear since the party has nominated so many candidates whose main benefit was support for Donald Trump. The big story was that these candidates are now calling Mr. McConnell to come to their rescue.

Exhibit A is Ohio, where Mr. McConnell’s allied Super Pac, the Senate Leadership Fund, is committing $28 million to save GOP candidate JD Vance. The author of “Hillbilly Elegy” won the primary in a split field after Mr. Trump endorsed him. But Mr Vance has been scrambling to raise money from the GOP donor network, which he despised as he courted the populist right.
