Twitter reactions as India drub Indonesia 16-0 to oust Pakistan, qualify for Super 4s

The Indian men’s ice hockey team defeated Indonesia by a whopping 16-0 to storm into the Super 4 stage of the current Asian Cup in Jakarta on Thursday.

India’s victory meant Pakistan’s elimination from the Asian Cup, nor did they secure a place at next year’s World Cup in India. Both India and Pakistan were four points behind Japan. India qualified for the Super 4 on goal difference of just one goal.

Dipsan Tirkey scored five goals while Sudev Belimagga scored a hat-trick. SV Sunil, Pawan Rajbhar and Karthi Selvam each scored twice while Uttam Singh and Nilam Sanjeep Xess each scored a goal for India.

Social media erupted as the Indian team rolled over Indonesia 16-0. The Indians needed 15 goals to draw level with Pakistan and move up to the Super 4.

Fans, hockey experts and former players congratulated the Indian team on their outstanding performance in the final league game of the tournament.

The young Indian team started with full force and was up to date right from the start. Knowing that they had to score more than 15 goals, the Indian team scored 10 goals in the first three quarters. The Indian team needed six goals in the last 15 minutes and held off Indonesia as the strikers scored at will.

India next meets Japan on May 28 in their first Super 4 game. The other teams in the second round are Malaysia and South Korea.
