Hemphill, who is white, was not fired or charged.
Hemphil’s attorney, Lee Gerald, previously said Hemphill was the third officer at Nichols’ first traffic stop. The first published bodycam footage came from Hemphill.
“Per department procedures, Officer Hemphill has activated his bodycam,” Gerald previously said in a statement. “He was never present at the second crime scene. He is cooperating with the officials in this investigation.”
