U.K. Begins Long Goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II

EDINBURGH, Scotland — The body of Queen Elizabeth II left Balmoral Castle in a hearse and was carried through towns and villages to the Scottish capital, Edinburgh, as thousands of mourners queued to pay their respects to Britain’s longest-serving monarch.

Balmoral was the Queen’s beloved residence in north-east Scotland, where she spent summers with her family. It was said that Balmoral, purchased by Queen Victoria in the 19th century, was the place where the Queen could briefly hang up her crown and enjoy life and family.
