U.N. Atomic Chief Warns of Growing Nuclear Risks

The head of the United Nations nuclear agency on Tuesday issued a sharp warning about the growing nuclear risks, saying Iran’s activities risked a regional nuclear arms race and that Russia’s occupation of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities threatened to jeopardize the agency’s ability to ensure non-nuclear material present is abused.

In a broad-based speech at the Australian National University in Canberra, Rafael Grossithe head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, warned that “we are reaching a pivotal moment for global nuclear non-proliferation” when the risks of nuclear proliferation “pose a problem for all.”
