U.S. in Talks With Suriname to Take Afghans Stranded in Kosovo

WASHINGTON — American officials are in talks to send the remaining Afghans being held at a U.S. base in Kosovo to the tiny South American nation of Suriname after failing to clear entry requirements to enter the U.S., officials said people familiar with the discussions.
Suriname’s Ambassador to the US confirmed that talks with the US were at a preliminary stage and the country was considering whether to proceed. “We’re thinking about it,” Ambassador Marten Schalkwijk said, adding that if necessary, the country would appoint a team to conduct the talks.
