U.S. News Best Hospitals: Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Wills Eye in Philadelphia rank high on lists

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — US News and World Reports published its annual ranking of America’s Best Hospitals, and several local healthcare organizations made the list.

Penn Presbyterian Medical Center was thirteenth overall on the list of honors.

The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota came in at #1, followed by Cedars-Sanai Medical Center in Los Angeles, NYU Langone Hospitals in New York, the Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

The honors list recognizes 20 hospitals that excel in most or all types of care evaluated by US News.

Penn Presbyterian also ranked #8 for cancer treatment and pulmonology & Lung Surgery.

Wills Eye Hospital in Jefferson ranked #2 for ophthalmology, just below Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia ranked #5 for treating childhood cancer and #1 for pediatric diabetes & Endocrinology.

Rothman Orthopedics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals ranked #7 for Orthopedics.

MossRehab in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, ranked 9th for rehabilitation.

“US News estimates that nearly two million hospital inpatients each year face the prospect of surgery or specialty care that involves either unusual technical challenges or a significantly increased risk of death or injury due to age, physical condition, or pre-existing medical conditions.” , US News said. “The rankings are a tool that can help these patients find sources of qualified inpatient care.”
